On Monday 3 April 2017, prof. Uijttewaal, chairman of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of TU Delft, together with ir. Bosschieter of the Port of Rotterdam, revealed a scale model of a quay wall. The scale model was donated by the Port of Rotterdam to stress the good relationship between the two institutes.

The student organization 'Het Waterbouwdispuut' helped organizing the ceremony, which was chaired by prof. Jonkman, TU Delft. He introduced the two speakers of the afternoon. Ir. Bosschieter explained that the 500 m long and 22 m high quay wall in Maasvlakte 2 was constructed for the loading of huge steel monopiles for new offshore wind turbine plants. Ir. Putteman of MariTeam consultancy combination clarified the specific difficulties of the design of the complex structure for an audience of interested hydraulic engineering students and department members. The ceremony was closed with a social gathering and drinks. The scale model has meanwhile found its place in the hallway at the third floor of our faculty, near elevator E.
